Mr. Richard Dukes, age 75, of Griffin passed away on Friday December 9, 2011 at Christian Ministries Hospice. Mr. Dukes was a life resident of Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. He was educated in the Griffin-Spalding School System and graduated from Fairmont High School after which he attended Fort Valley State College.
He was involved in the community as Vice-President of the NAACP, Member of the Spalding County Park and Recreation Board of Commissioners, Member of Fairmont High School Alumni Association and Member of St. George’s Episcopal Church.
Richard enjoyed sports, music, traveling and children especially his grandchildren. He retired from Ford Motor Company after being employed for thirty years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Jimmie Dukes, Sr., mother Stella Mae Reid Dukes, Sister Betty Dukes Combs, Brothers Grier Dukes and Tyrone Dukes.
Left to cherish his memories he is survived by four children, Casandra Dukes Remson, Richard Dukes and wife Susan, Shwanda Dukes and Tiffany Dukes. Ten grandchildren: Jessica Remson, Kristin Dukes, Cameron Griffith, Courtland Griffith, Christopher Griffith, T’Narra Hutcherson, Elisha Dukes, Yasmine Dukes, LaJade Dukes and India Dukes. He is survived by five (5) sisters Jeanette Hutcherson and husband Dennis, Ann Lucier, Betty Washington, Janie Douglas and husband Louis, Belissa Raglin and four (4) brothers Jimmy Dukes, John Burnette Dukes and wife, Lottie; William Dukes and wife, Leanna and Ronnie McCord and wife, Zena. He is also survived by one Aunt, Hattie Mae Worthen and a Uncle, Samuel and wife, Rev. Mary Reid. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also, a life long and devoted friend Mrs. Erma Lee Roberts.
Funeral Services for Mr. Dukes will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Rev. Nancy Shepherd will officiate. Repass will be at the Fairmont Community Center following the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home.
