Born August 17, 1925, in Haddonfield, NJ to Jean Marie Leafy of Philadelphia, PA and Richard Jackson of Portadown, Northern Ireland. During World War II, Mary Jane volunteered as a “candy striper” at Swarthmore Hospital in Folsom, PA. She met her husband, Charles in Ocean City, NJ where they were married on July 6, 1946. They had just celebrated 68 years of marriage. She was an operator with the Folsom, PA phone company, and later worked for the Bethesda Chevy Chase Ford Dealership and Washington Technological Association, along with several other businesses, as an accountant while living in Rockville and Chevy Chase, Maryland. Charles and Mary Jane Fahey retired to Hilton Head, SC where they lived for thirty happy years. Mary Jane worked as a companion and practical nurse for the elderly as well as volunteering faithfully at the Bargain Box while living in Hilton Head. Mary Jane and Charles were founding members of Christian Renewal Church in Hilton Head, SC. Mary Jane and her husband Charles moved to Griffin, GA to live with her daughter in 2008. She attended Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and was a member at second Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy Harrington (Steve) of Sunnyvale, CA and their children Alison (Bryon) and great granddaughters, Naomi and Julia Grace; grandson, Matthew Harrington (Elizabeth) of Elk Grove, CA and great-grandchildren, Scarlet and Finn; granddaughter, Jenny Harrington of Sacramento, CA and great-grandchild, Jameson; daughter, Janet McDougal (Kent) of Griffin, GA and grandchildren, Mary Beth, Esther and Samuel; son, Richard Fahey of Brooklyn, NY and grandchildren, Theodore and William; sister-in-law, Evelyn Pankow of Stockton, CA nephew, David Jackson and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of the life of Mary Jane Fahey on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 501 West Broad St., Griffin, GA 30223. The family will receive visitors 30 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mrs. Fahey’s name to Master’s Handymen at the Flint River Baptist Association, 568 Baptist Camp Rd., Griffin, GA 30223.
