

Mrs. Collier was born in Williamson, GA. Her parents were Emmie Lee Ball Kimbrel and John Walter Kimbrel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years Charles A. (C.A.) Collier, Jr.; son, Barry L. Collier; son, Charles A. Collier, III; sister, Miriam Kimbrel Cox; brothers, Dudley Kimbrel and Seth W. Kimbrel.
Jeanette was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Griffin. She served as secretary of the Church Council for 17 years; secretary for the Mission’s Work Area for 35 years; Elementary Sunday School Teacher; delegate to the North Georgia Annual Conference for many years, etc. She was a member of the Maddox-Bailey Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart, and the Faith Circle of the United Methodist Woman.
During WWII, Jeanette served in the WAVES (Women Appointed for Voluntary Emergency Service), U.S. Naval Reserve. She achieved the rating of Chief Yeoman and was the first enlisted WAVE assigned to duty in the Sixth Naval District. She enjoyed keeping in touch with a number of her “shipmates” through the years.
Jeanette served as coleader, with her husband, for the Griffin Affiliate of the Georgia Alliance for the Mentally Ill for 22 years.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Danny Butts of Milledgeville, GA; sister, Jacqueline Reed of Griffin; 5 nieces; 8 nephews; 8 cousins and all of their families. She is also survived by “The Friday Night Group.”
Funeral services for Jeanette Kimbrel Collier will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Griffin First United Methodist Church. Dr. Med Roach and Dr. Richard Lumpkin will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
