Mrs. Crews was born on June 15, 1946 in Montgomery County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Nelson and Mary Alice Witt Starkey. She retired from the Henry County Board of Education after 20 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Elliston Church of God. Mrs. Crews will be remembered as a true and faithful servant of God. She was always unwavering in her faith and witness for her Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hugh Bowling Crews Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Guaquita Crews LaVelle of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Hugh Bowling III and Liz Crews of Comer, Ga.; grandchildren, Katlyn LaVelle, Mackenzie Crews, Madison Crews, Alexis Crews, and Dylan Crews; sister and brother-in-law, Claudine Francis and Kenneth Pettis; brother and sister-in-law, Lynwood Nelson and Rita Starkey; mother-in-law, Rev. Mary Crews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Sonny Perry, Constance Shiflett, Deborah and Wesley Hayes, and Cheryl Lindsey; many nieces, nephews, and other family also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. Hugh Bowling Crews III and Rev. Barry Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m.
