Rev. Huckaby was born February 6, 1920 in Woodbury, Georgia, son of the late Landrum Jimmy Huckaby and the late Jessie Bridges Huckaby. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orchard Hill. Rev. Huckaby pastored Grace Baptist Church in Griffin for 32 years. He also pastored Bethel Baptist Church in Milner and Elkins Creek Baptist Church in Molena. Rev. Huckaby worked at Spalding Knitting Mill before entering full time ministry. During his years of ministry he served as director of the Flint River Baptist Ministry for 3 years, Flint River Baptist Camp for 3 years, served on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Association for 5 years, was Moderator of the Flint River Baptist Association and served as the President of the Georgia Baptist Association. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers & 3 sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Bessie Huckaby of Griffin; sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Marsha Huckaby of Griffin, Gary & Joy Huckaby of Charleston Heights, SC; daughter & son-in-law, Brenda & Terry Killingsworth of Griffin; granddaughters, Selena Alvar & husband, Nestor, Alisa Huckaby, Kimberlee Huckaby-Kilgo and husband, Freddie, and Paula Huckaby-Wright; great-grandchildren, Quaid Alvar, Noah Wright and Caden Wright; sister, Patricia Daniel and special friends, Melba and Betty Jo.
Funeral services for Rev. Allen Huckaby will be held Friday, April 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. John Whatley and Ken Buckles will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
