Wayne Lyle Robertson passed away on January 27, 2016, at his residence in Troutdale, Oregon. Wayne was born on September 14, 1920, in Osakis, Minnesota, to his parents: Charles and Statira (Boyd) Robertson. He attended Osakis Middle School. There were no buses that ran there, so he walked 2 miles to school each day.
Wayne joined the Civilian Conservation Corp, which was a part of the United States Forestry Service. He took great pride in his job, which consisted of planting trees, building roads and campgrounds, and driving truck to transport men and equipment.
After Wayne served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, he became a Wheat Farmer. He later became a carpenter, and he built grain elevators in Minnesota. In 1961, Wayne moved to Beaverton, Oregon, and he continued his carpentry; he built many houses in the Dundee and Newberg area.
In 1966, Wayne began his career at the Esco Corporation Steel Foundry. He began as a grinder, and he retired in December of 1982 as the Lead Man.
On May 22, 1971, Wayne married the love of his life, Eileen McNutt, at Gresham Free Methodist (Sanctuary Church) in Gresham. Together, they attended Beaverton Free Methodist Church for many years. More recently, they attended Lynchwood Church of God.
Wayne loved doing yardwork, and he took care of the yard maintenance at the churches they attended. He won the Yardwork Appreciation Award for being “A Cut Above”. Wayne also enjoyed camping and fishing. He will always be remembered as a quiet, caring man who loved his family.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two of his children, Phyllis and Marcia Ann; his brothers, Kenton, Keith, Leon, Merlin, and Wallace; and his sister, Zeidah. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; his son, Curtis; his daughter, Susanne; his niece, Judy; his nephews, Jim and Lee; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5th, from 2-6 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 6th, at 10 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, with a 1 pm Committal Service at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
