Tom was born in Portland on January 17, 1935 and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School before serving as a cook in the United States Navy. He married his sweetheart Betty June Wells while still in the service. Tom worked for the Portland city bus line, Rose City Transit, and was later a newspaper distributer for the Oregonian. He was involved in several business ventures. Tom served on the board of the Oregonian Federal Credit Union and was active in Kiwanis and Elks for many years.
Tom was above all a family man and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Dietz, his daughter Debbie and Ray Carter, son Tom and Christine Dietz, Donna Dietz, seven amazing grandchildren, Desiree Dietz, Ian and Franci Carter, Lindy Carter, Teira and Travis Wilson, Keziah Carter, Michael Carter, and Brayden Dietz, and five beautiful great grandchildren.
He loved the blazers and everything Mickey Mouse. He was loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and he will be greatly missed.
Service will be on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
