Ted was born in Portland to Theodore and Charlotte Salo. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed in Athens, Greece where he met and married his wife Katina (Kapellakis) Salo in 1957. They moved back to Portland where they settled and had two children. In 1969 Ted and his family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi where Ted attended US Air Force officer's training school. Upon returning to Portland, Ted attended Portland State University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in business administration. Ted retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service and owned and operated several small businesses, namely Katina's Deli in old town Portland. After his wife Katina passed away in 1997, Ted was greatly blessed to meet and marry LaRue (Burgess) Salo. Ted and LaRue celebrated 19 years of marriage just prior to his passing. Before his health declined, Ted and LaRue were volunteers at Legacy Mt. Hood Hospital and taught Sunday school at Grace Community Church where they were members for over 10 years.
In addition to his wife Katina, Ted was predeceased by his parents and his sister Miriam Reid. He is survived by his loving wife LaRue, his children Rick Salo and Maria Salo Smith, his sister Maria Busenbark and grandsons Nick & Jonathan Salo. He is also survived by his step-children Kathy (Steve) Kiesel, Jeff (Chris) Burgess, Greg (Robin) Burgess and many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A Viewing will be held from 10;00am to 12:00pm on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon and a Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow at 1:30pm at Willamette National Cemetery.
