Tamara (Tami) Kuulei Fields Felix was born October 19, 1957 in Portland, Oregon, and passed away on August 19, 2023. Tami was the first-born child and grandchild in her family, and was greatly treasured by all. Tami graduated from Madison High School and attended Mt. Hood Community College, graduating with a degree in Health Information Systems & Medical Coding.
During her career, Tami filled a variety of positions in nearly every healthcare system in the Portland Metro area, including Portland Adventist, OHSU and Legacy Health System. Her most recent position was Supervisor of Coding and Compliance for Legacy’s Professional Billing Department. Tami performed duties with skill and panache; her “superpower” was her ability to meet her clients (Legacy’s employed physicians) with acceptance and humor, as well as a wonderful ability to share her knowledge in ways that were easily understood.
Some of the things Tami enjoyed most were spending time with her nieces Gabby and Mari; card-making classes, during which she created beautiful greeting cards which were shared with family and friends; dachshunds of all sizes and colors; and dining out at both favorite restaurants and new and potentially exciting ethnic restaurants.
Tami was a foodie, and a wonderful cook. Her family and friends all enjoyed Tami’s culinary skills. Of course, anyone who knew Tami realized quickly that her Hawaiian heritage and culture were near and dear to her heart. Tami lived and worked in Oahu several years ago, and returned for visits whenever she could. She had a large extended family and some very good friends in Hawaii.
Tami is survived by her mother Leilani Warren and sister Kelley Fields of Portland OR and brother Kevin Fields of San Diego CA; her brother and sister-in-law Dan and Gena Fields of Portland OR; nieces Keilani Fernandez of San Diego CA, Gabriella and Mariana Fields of Portland OR, and her nephew Grant Mortenson of Prescott AZ; aunt Maile Ynacay, cousin Robert Constance and stepmother Paula Filbert. Tami was preceded in death by her father Donald Fields.
A Celebration of Tami’s Life will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon.
