Bob passed away at home on April 24th. Born in Oakland, CA to Delphina and Joseph Ventura, he spent his childhood in Martinez, CA. At 16, he entered the California National Guard, and enlisted at 18 in the USMC.
He retired after 22 years of military service with rank of Gunnery Sgt. He was sent to Iceland before the start of WWII. He served for 3 years in the Pacific during WWII, and later in Japan. He also served in Korea. He was transferred to several Marine Divisions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and Seagoing), his favorite being in a Tanker Co.
After his service in the USMC, Bob worked as a vault and safe tech for US National, 1st Interstate, Yale Locks, and he retired from US Bank in 1986. He was a member of National and Local Organizations pertaining to the USMC Associations. He will be missed by all family and friends who valued his loyalty, generosity, sense of humor and love of life and travel.
He married Irene Ahl in 1958; she passed away in 1992. He married Gayle Poff on January 1st, 1994. He is survived by Gayle and stepchildren Mitchell (Sue) Poff, Marci (Mike) Demeter, 14 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, George, stepchildren Sandra (John) Kindsfather and Jeff Poff (Anna Mae). Bob also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 1:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Boulevard, Gresham, Oregon. Interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
