Robert Harry Schaaf was born on Dec 7, 1923 in Sibley, Iowa to Clara and Harry Schaaf, the oldest of three children. Bob attended schools in Seaside and Scappose, and Franklin High School in Portland. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European theater during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to work for Portland Terminal Railroad until retiring in 1981, working in the mail department and at Northern Yard. Bob was a member of Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church for almost 60 years, where his quiet wisdom and love for all will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife Elaine; sisters Virginia Morrison and Muriel; daughter Julie Schaaf (John) and son Ken Schaaf; and five grandchildren. Service will be held Friday August 16, 2013 at 4:00pm at Savage Memorial Presbyterian. Memorial contributions may be made to the Savage Memorial Urgent Needs Fund.
