He was more than just a family man—he was the anchor upon which everyone leaned, a role he embraced wholeheartedly.
Born into a bustling household as the eldest of four siblings, Ric embodied resilience and versatility from a young age. His life was marked by a remarkable breadth of skills and passions. Whether he was honing a new skill, designing structures, or imparting wisdom on everything from tools to technology, his knowledge knew no bounds. His dedication to his craft was evident; his work not only defined him but also left a lasting impact on all who benefited from his expertise.
A devoted husband to Barbara, his partner of over 50 years, Ric exemplified familial commitment. While they rarely took vacations alone, preferring instead to include their children, it was his adoration for his grandchildren that truly illuminated his spirit. Never one to refuse their requests, he cherished every moment spent with them, ensuring they grew up happy, healthy, and knowledgeable about the world around them.
Ric's love for adventure and the outdoors was profound. An avid boater, he found solace and joy on the water. His prized possession, "Obsession," was more than a boat—it was a vessel of cherished family memories, meticulously cared for and always ready for another day of exploration. His enthusiasm for waterskiing and family boat outings was infectious, bringing together loved ones for countless memorable moments.
Beyond his passions, Ric was a pillar of strength in his community. Whether coaching soccer or cheering on the 49ers, his presence was felt far and wide. His love for music, especially the Mt Hood Jazz festival, and his intellectual curiosity, evidenced by his affinity for Nature, History and Cooking programs on TV and his voracious and diverse reading habits, reflected his vibrant spirit.
Ric's life was a testament to kindness, hard work, and an unwavering faith. Though he faced health challenges with remarkable grace, his determination to live fully never wavered. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his beloved family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Ric King is survived by his loving wife Barbara, children Jennifer (Jake) and Michael (Chris), adored granddaughters Mercede and Felicia, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will continue to be inspired by his remarkable life. His spirit will forever guide and uplift those who were blessed to call him family or friend.
A celebration of life for Ric will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR 97030.
