Pearl was born on January 8, 1919 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and was the daughter of Rangvald and Octavy (Spangler) Bendiksen. At age 5 she moved to the United States, residing in the Northwest. She spent 2 years in Hawaii, where she met and married Charles Norman, and they were later divorced.
She attended Willamette University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Puget Sound. She later received her teaching credentials from Portland State University and taught 2nd and 3rd grades for Damascus Union School District. She retired in 1981.
Pearl was very active as a volunteer with various local churches, the Gresham Historical Society and the Salvation Army. She enjoyed gardening and day trips to visit family or spend time on the beach. She was a caring, loving person who adored spending time with her family.
Pearl is survived by her children, Niki Norman of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Sandy (wife, Vivian) Norman of Vancouver and Ron (wife, Debbie) Norman of Troutdale and her sister, Thelma Murer of Alabama along with 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Her other siblings, Virginia, Marie, Clifford, Evylin and Carl all preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Pearl to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Salvation Army. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
