

Norman Ronald LaPlante passed away on May 30, 2015, in Seattle, Washington. Norman was born on April 22, 1939, in Silverton, Oregon, to his parents; Norman Clifford and Nellie Marie (Smith) LaPlante. Norman grew up in Portland, Oregon, and he graduated from David Douglas High School. On December 12, 1959, Norman married the love of his life, Susan Light; and they were married for over 55 years.
Norman was a man who was proud of his country, and he was proud of his service to his country. Norman served from 1959-1979 in the Army Security Agency. Upon his retirement from the Army Security Agency, Norman worked at Mt. Hood Community College in Public Safety for 18 years. After his time at Mt. Hood, Norman worked in the hunting and fishing department at the Gresham Fred Meyer from the time it first opened until its closing 5 years later. Norman was a member of the VFW Sandy Post, and AARL Amateur Radio.
Norman was a man with many talents and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, deer and elk hunting, and he was involved with HAM radio. Norman was a Morse Code Expert; he could produce 80 words a minute. Norman’s “Call Sign” was N7JQO. Norman will always be remembered for his love for his family and friends. Norman was known as “Grandpa” to all of the children that loved him, and he will be forever missed.
Norman is survived by his wife; Susan LaPlante, his children; Ronald Alan, Michael Vernon, Paul Edward, and Druanne Margaret, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his brother’s; Dennis LaPlant, Larry Richardson and Keith Richardson, his sister’s; Mary Ann Swingle and Annette Emra, and his stepfather; John Richardson. Norman will be dearly missed by his loving family.
