Gresham resident Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Garnett, 84, passed away September 17, 2010. Visitation will be from 10 to 5 on Friday, Sept. 24 and 10 to 4 on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 1 PM on Monday, September 27 at Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 16 at First Baptist Church of Gresham.
Betty was born April 9, 1926 in Salina, Kansas to Ernest Ludwig Ohman Sr. and Lottie Nell Montgomery Ohman. She was raised in Hill City, Kansas. On April 17, 1943, Betty married Harold Douglas Garnett in Henrietta, Texas. They moved throughout the war, eventually settling in Gresham, Oregon in 1949.
Betty worked the majority of her life until retirement with the Gresham/Barlow School District as a head cook. She retired in 1985.
Betty loved oil painting and cooking. She enjoyed travelling throughout the United States with Harold in their RV as well as two trips to Hawaii. She loved children, especially her grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Harold; daughters Gloria Driscoll of Boring, OR; and Shirley Geisler of Gresham, OR; sons, Robert Garnett of Welches, OR; and John Garnett of Boring, OR; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
