Marguerite Marie McCleary, age 94, of Boring, Oregon passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Born in Dover country, Oregon, the second of three children, to Quincy and Marie (Haselwander) Erdman. Maggie had two brothers, Wallace and Danny, who have all preceded her in death.
Maggie graduated from Gresham High School in 1946 She met her heart and the love of her life, Gus in 1945. They married at St. Henry’s in Gresham on September 13, 1947 and had recently celebrated 75 years of marriage.
Maggie worked briefly at PGE and then “retired” to raise their six children: Julie, Jackie, Jeri, Dennis, Casey and Melanie. She considered her family her greatest accomplishment and joy!
She later worked at Gresham School District and then Boring School District, where 800 kids and their families called her Maggie and she loved every one of them. When their oldest daughter, Julie, died in 1990, Maggie and Gus decided that life was too precious, short, and retired. They have lived on their five acres in Boring for 45 years with the birds, chipmunks, squirrels, coyotes, cougar, deer and all of their beautiful flower gardens. Her love of flowers and nature was passed on to all of her loved ones.
Maggie leaves behind her husband, Gus and her children Jackie, Jeri, Dennis and his wife Cheryl, Casey and his wife Shawn, and son-in-law Tim. Her daughters, Julie and Melanie, preceded her in death.
She left a legacy of 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Maggie is now in the arms of her daughters, parents, and all those who went before. All who loved her, and there were many, will miss her so very much. We know she is at peace. Mom, Grandma, Nana, Maggie…we will carry your spirit of generosity, love, family and kindness forward.
Services will be held at Bateman Carrol Funeral Home in Gresham on January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM. She requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Union Gospel Mission, St. Jude or Sno-Cap.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to Providence Hospice for all of their support and care.
