Lorena Francis Roles (née Landacre), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 91. Born June 21, 1933, in Dubois, Idaho, to Harold and Lydia Landacre, Lorena spent her early years in the charming town of her birth before moving to Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Franklin High School and subsequently met the love of her life, Robert Roles, through mutual friends. They were married on May 14, 1954, at the Church of Christ in Milwaukie, Oregon, a union that spanned decades of love and shared adventures.
Lorena’s career included work in collections before she found her true calling as a teacher’s aide at David Douglas High School, where she touched the lives of countless students. A devoted member of Powell Hurst Baptist Church in Portland, her faith was a cornerstone of her life and guided her actions. She was known for her generous spirit, often contributing charitable donations to her church.
Beyond her professional life, Lorena embraced a vibrant and active lifestyle. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, hunting, and camping, and she especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A skilled poker player with a quick wit and infectious laughter, she was known for her extremely loyal and loving nature, her great sense of humor, and her affectionate spirit. Her deep love and appreciation for friends and family, and her dedication to creating joyful memories, will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Lorena is survived by her sister, Stella; her sons and their spouses, Doug and Cathy Roles, and Daren and Cynthia Roles; her five grandchildren, Andrew, Brenton, Bradley, Alex, and Katy; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed but her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A funeral service for Lorena will be held at 1pm Friday, April 18, 2025 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR 97030, with a reception to follow.
