Leta June Anderson, a longtime Gresham resident, passed away on October 13, 2023 after a brief illness at the age of 95. Leta was a Halloween baby born in Toledo, Oregon on October 31, 1927 to the late Lester and Elsie Curry. She also had a younger brother, the late Donald "Bud" Curry.
She graduated from Toledo High School where she was the president of her senior class. On November 15, 1947, she married Raymond George Anderson. After living several places in Oregon, they eventually settled in the Portland area and had four children. Leta and Ray were married for 59 years until Ray's death in 2007. After raising her children, Leta went back to college and earned her associate's degree at Mt. Hood Community College. After graduating college, she worked at Cascade Corporation from 1984 until she retired in 1997. In retirement, she and Ray enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and gardening.
Leta loved her family. She is said to be the glue that held the large extended family together. Her home was a central gathering place for many holidays and special family occasions. She was an avid gardener, loved her painting classes, and was a very active member of the Gresham United Methodist Church. Her garden often provided many of the flower arrangements at the church. Though as much as Leta loved her other activities, her favorite time of year was Christmas. She would spend at least a week decorating her home from top to bottom with Christmas decorations as well as hosting up to eight parties during the holiday season.
Leta is survived by her four children, Steven Anderson of Gresham, Oregon, Michael Anderson of Elmira, Oregon, Randall Anderson of Wilsonville, Oregon, and Kari Anderson (Michael) of Bend, Oregon; as well as seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services for Leta will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
