Laurabelle Ann Monckton, 73, of Gresham, Oregon passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. She was born on June 17, 1950 in Sunnyside, Washington to Robert and Alice Hoard, where they raised turkeys on the family farm. At a young age, with a sick mother, God led her father to move his family to Portland, Oregon. In the new city, God provided them with a local church community who became life-long friends and family. Laura graduated from Marshall High School in Portland, Oregon and received her Bachelor Degree from Bethany Bible College in Scotts Valley, California. Upon arriving home, Laura noticed a new arrival and introduced herself, welcoming him to the church. Laura married David Monckton on November 11, 1972 in Portland, Oregon.
Laura worked as an elementary school teacher for over twenty years and was a faithful member of Family Worship Center, serving in the children’s ministry until 2020. Laura always cared for those around her: as a substitute mother for her younger sister, providing a home for her elderly father, and lovingly caring for her children, grandchildren, and mother-in-law in her last days. Laura loved to read and enjoyed quilting and sewing. She made her own wedding dress and was responsible for many other wedding and bridesmaids dresses over the years.
Laura is survived by her husband, David Monckton of Gresham, Oregon, daughters Christina Woodward with her husband Bryan of Colton, Oregon and Janette Acuna with her husband Richard, Rebecca Jenner with her husband Charles, and Alisa Hatton with her husband Paul, all of Gresham, Oregon, brothers David Hoard with his wife Linda of Gresham, Oregon and Jon Hoard with his wife Vicki of Portland, Oregon, sisters Sharon Pitzer with her husband David and Joyce Alexander with her husband Todd, both of Troutdale, Oregon, and thirteen grandchildren: Ron, Dakota, Peter, Anna, Raquel, Sofia, Conner, Emma, Lily, Kaylee, Cade, Olivia, and Evan.
