Laura Jean Atkins

Laura Jean Atkins, born November 7, 1947 in Portland Oregon passed away on November 11, 2022 at her home in Portland Oregon at the age of 75. Laura was born in Portland Oregon where she grew up. She attended Cleveland High School and Mt. Hood Community College where she received her GED. She lived for a short time in El Cajon and Los Angeles California. Then she moved back home to Portland. In 1965 she had her Son. In 1967 she Married Joe Grant Atkins, and in 1977 and 1979 she had her two daughters. She remained happily married until Joe’s death in 2015. Her children and grandchildren were the lights of her life, and would do anything for them. Some time after her children had all entered school she returned to the workforce through a temp agency, until she injured herself at work. Later she returned to work for the Oregonian, as an inserter, where she worked until her stroke in 2015. She loved traveling, sewing, working with computers, and her dogs. She had many dogs over her lifetime, but her favorites were her mini dachshunds. Before her stroke 7 years ago she had 9 at the same time, and she also thought of them as her children as well.

She was preceded by her husband Joe, great grandson Coltan, nephew Carrie, and dog Mickey.

She is survived by her Sister Jeanette, Children Gene, Christy and Patricia, Grandchildren Caden, Cody, Spencer, Aleisha, Lisa, Jeremy, Gena, and Louis, her Great Grandchildren Kayla, Serenity, Zachariah, Delilah, Benjamin, Maxwell, and Terry, and Great Great Grandchildren Danica, and Rowan, Niece Candy, Great Niece Annette, Great Nephew Anthony, Great Great Nephew Skyler.

There will be a viewing Saturday November 26th from 2pm - 3pm, located at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.

Memorial service to be determined.
