John C. Cogdill, 98, of Gresham, passed away on March 6, 2016. John was born in Malott, Washington and later moved to the Yakima Valley where he became a fruit farmer. He was raised with three siblings. Following high school John completed two years of college. John met the love of his life Verneta Henry and together they raised four children. John retired after 30 years’ of service with the US Postal Service in Gresham. After retiring from the post office, he became bored with retirement and had a brief career in real estate. During his lifetime John served on the Powell Valley School Board as the board chairman. John was an avid reader and had a heart for children. Both he and his wife supported children through the Boys and Girls Aid Society for many years. Likeable, avid reader, disciplined, devoted husband and father were just a few of the many words used to describe him. John was preceded in death by his wife Verneta; and brother, Harold. He is survived by his children, Ron, Loren, Janet, and Trina; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother Herbert and sister, Mary. John will be scattered in Eagle Creek and he will be memorialized with his wife, Verneta, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Contributions to be made to the Boys and Girls Aid Society in Portland.
