James was born on July 17, 1922 in Bull Run, Oregon to James Roland McGinnis, Sr. and Orla Elizabeth (Anderson) McGinnis. He graduated from Gresham High School in 1941. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. James married Margaret Jorgensen on January 30, 1943 in Moscow, Idaho. Margaret died in March of 2008. James worked for Portland General Electric Company as a Lineman for 33 years.
James was a 44 year member of the Gresham Elks Lodge 152. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gresham. James built a home on SE Haley Rd. in Boring where he lived for 60 years. There he operated the Firland Christmas Tree Farm. James attended the Pleasant Home United Methodist Church. Hobbies included being an avid deer and elk hunter, liked to fish, garden, dance and gamble.
Survivors include his four daughters, Nancy Matthews, of Portland, OR., Suzy Falk, of Gresham, OR., Judi Gipe, of Gresham, OR., and Polly Ozias, of Boring, OR., sister Dona Johnston, of Boring, OR, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donations may be given to the Endowment Fund at the Pleasant Home United Methodist Church, 31632 SE Bluff Rd. in Gresham, Oregon 97080,. and Mt. Hood Hospice.
A Graveside service will be on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, March 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. in Gresham.
