Fred Martin passed away peacefully after a long illness and having enjoyed a good life.
Born March 6, 1931 in Spokane Washington and raised by adopted parents Sadie “Mary” and Frank Panco in Orofino Idaho. Fred graduated from Orofino High School in 1949. He spent many summers working and playing in the woods and enjoyed fishing local rivers and streams.
After high school, Fred and his buddies joined the US Army and served in the Korean War. He earned his degree in education at the University of Idaho and his Master’s degree from Oregon State University.

They moved from Ocean Lake Oregon (now Lincoln City), where he taught Junior High and coached baseball and basketball, to John Day Oregon where he taught High School and in the summers worked for the US Forest Service on Strawberry Mountain. The next move was to Portland Oregon and then a small family farm in the Redland area near Oregon City. He was a counselor at Sandy HS, Vice Principal at Estacada HS and retired as Principal (K-5) at Corbett Grade. Throughout this time he enjoyed sports, camping, fishing and farming.
Fred and Jane Spielman (Adams) married in 1981, and made their home in Gresham where they raised two children; James and Megan. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time in Sunriver, fishing and traveling with his black labs, Spooky and Riley.
