Fernando “Frank” Silvio Benetti was born in Lucca, Italy on March 24, 1932 and then immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1936. Frank attended Washington High School in Portland and graduated in 1950. In October 1961, he became a firefighter with the City of Portland and retired as a firefighter/dispatcher in 1986. Frank was extremely proud of his fire service career.
Frank was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt, fish, golf and look for mushrooms and rocks wherever he went. As an accomplished finish carpenter, Frank had a deep love for building cabinets and remodeling rooms for friends and family as well as constructing all kinds of interesting crafts and jewelry from wood, rocks and metal. He was a true artisan. Frank also was quite the handyman that never passed up the opportunity to help anyone with anything at anytime. He was certainly a master recycler that was able to transform any scrap into a useful item with minimal effort. His quick wit and spirited humor will never be forgotten.
Frank died after suffering a stroke on October 6, 2010 in Portland, Oregon. He will be sorely missed.
Frank S. Benetti is survived by Carol, his wife of 53 years; sons Loyd and Marco, daughter Cathy and grandchildren Alexie, Samantha and Blair.
