David was the second born of three children. His older sister Edie preceded him in death in 2013.
In 1942, the Baker family moved to Vancouver Washington so his dad and mom could work in the shipyards during the war times.
When he was 17, he enlisted in the United States Airforce. He received his GED through Cleveland High School in 1959. During his time in the service, he was stationed at Luke Airforce Base in Glendale, Arizona. It was here that he attended a dance at the USO and met his wife to be Louise. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
On October 22nd, 1960, David married the love of his life, Louise Merlene Anderson, in Phoenix, Arizona. They were married until her passing in 1999. Together, they had four children and raised a fifth.
In 1972, David and Louise started their janitorial business Baker’s Building Maintenance which each family member spent time working at one point or another. His youngest son Casey is keeping his dream alive today.
David was involved in his community. He supported the different school athletic teams and was part of the Marshall High School booster club. He enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events (he was their biggest fan!), as well as fishing, camping, and horseback riding. He often spoke of his time working on his Aunt and Uncle’s horseback riding stable in Arizona.
David also took great pleasure in sponsoring city league sports teams in football and softball. One of his cherished memories is being hoisted up and carried off the field after his Baker’s Breakers team had won the championship.
David will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, his generosity and kindness, his story telling, and the support he lended to those who were in need. He was very proud of his military service, and he often shared the memories from that time with his family members and friends.
David is survived by his sister, Suzan Baker; his brother in-law Dennis Anderson; his children and their spouses, Roscoe (Terri) Baker, John (Theresa) Baker, Kimberlie Fletcher, Casey Baker, and Tommy (Wendy) Kerr; his grandchildren, Allison and David Baker, Austin and Travis Baker, Adam and Christopher Fletcher, and Casey and Marion Baker; as well as his nieces, Becky Loghry and Lisa Cavanaugh, and Stephanie Core, and nephews Erik and Alan Anderson.
A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Saturday, December 10th, 2016, at 1:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. He will be missed.
