His journey began August 25th, 1933, in Lampasas, Texas and ended June 27th, 2024, at 1058am in Portland, Oregon. At Adventist Hospital.
Chuck was one of 12 children, making it to the golden age of 90, just 2 months shy of his 91st birthday. What a miracle and a blessing. No one in his family had made it to such a great age and we were truly blessed to have him with us for so long.
Life wasn’t always so easy for Chuck, growing up in a large family, he left the family home around the age of 16 where he found himself getting into trouble so he joined the Army at age 20. A short two years later he married a beautiful Irish American woman named Colleen Mollohan.
Together they raised two children, Linda and James in the Portland area, coming to settle in the Centennial neighborhood, where they would be known for hosting some of the largest parties around.
Chuck retired in 1997 after working for Freightliner for 37 years.
After retiring, Chuck and his wife Colleen became really involved with the Elks, Eagles, Moose lodges, embraced gardening, volunteering with the veterans, always had an open door for family and friends, and traveled the world until she passed unexpectedly in 2011. They had spent 56 years married to each other. I can still her Grandma Colleen saying, “God damnit Chuck!” Just for him to respond with an innocent look on his face with, “whhhat?”
Thankfully, Chuck found life was still worth living after her passing and spent the last 13 years living for them both. He even found a new partner, Joyce, and has spent approximately the last 10 years living it up dancing, traveling even more, and celebrating life with her. He even had a special bond with her great grandson. What a joy it has been to watch them enjoy these years together.
Regardless of age, Chucks passing was still a bit of a shock. He had recently been stepped down from memory care where he began to thrive again to assisted living. He had his own little apartment and really enjoyed having a little independence back. The week prior to passing he had been enjoying the beginning of summer, was getting ready for his 91st birthday at the end of August, enjoying lunch dates with Joyce and visits with his Daughter Linda and his Granddaughter Theresa.
Two days after being admitted to the hospital Chucks heart had given life all it had and said it was time to say goodbye.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Hough and her husband Mike; his son James and his wife Shari; Grandchildren: Harmony Giggers, Theresa Thomas, and Troy Thomas. Along with several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Theresa Thomas
