Bud passed away on January 8, 2024 at the age of 93, surrounded by his loved ones. His services will be held on January 30, 2024, at Bateman Funeral Home in Gresham, OR, beginning at 10:00 am. Immediately following his service, Bud will be laid to rest with full military honors at Willamette National Cemetery.
Bud was born on April 29, 1930, on the family farm in Arnegard, ND. As a baby, his crib consisted of a dresser drawer. Bud fondly remembered riding his horse, Toby, to the one room schoolhouse. His dog, Pooch, accompanied him just about anywhere he went.
Bud lived in Arnegard and worked on the farm until he was 13 years old when his family moved to Coeur d’ Alene, ID. He graduated from Coeur d’ Alene High School and North Idaho State College.
After graduating from Office Candidate School, he served as a 2nd Lt. Officer in the US Army overseas in Korea – he was always very proud to have served his country and be a veteran. He will receive full military honors and will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery.
Following his military service, Bud returned to Montana State University (a proud Bobcat) and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from MSU. Bud worked for the Bonneville Power Administration until his retirement 35 years later. Following his retirement from Bonneville Power at the age of 55, Bud continued to work well into his 80’s performing engineering projects as a sub-contractor for EDA and various other engineering consultant firms.
Bud leaves behind his wife, the “love of his life” Lenore, as well as daughters Susan Bailey (Tigard, OR), Sharlene Sande (Condon, MT), Lori Sande (and her fiancé, Perry Johnson). Bud loved his 4 grandchildren Trent, Holli, Christopher and Jennifer very much and spent time sharing his life experiences with all of them. In addition to his grandchildren, Bud truly enjoyed time with his great grandchildren Natalie, Adalyn, Rylan, Emerie, Madden, Mason and Will.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents (Martin & Lillian Sande), son-in-laws (Bob Steigerwald & Charlie Bailey) and brothers (Leland, Ed and Wendell).
