Carl Nydegger, born January 26, 1916 in Boise, Idaho, died October 06, 2011, at age 95. He was the son of Adolph and Katherine Nydegger. Carl moved to Oregon to attend college on a football scholarship. After college, he played semi-pro for the Portland team during WWII.
Carl attended both the University of Portland and Oregon State University. He received his Bachelor’s of Arts and 5th year graduate teaching certificate. He went into World War II work until 1945. After that, he taught at Warrenton High and Seaside High School from 1945-1964, and acted as a counselor in Guam for two years, then in California, Milwaukie and David Douglas High School until he retired in 1978.While at Seaside and Warrenton schools, he was also the sports coach.
Carl met his wife Barbara (Brophy) while in college. They were married in November 1940 in Portland, Oregon, and celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2010. Carl enjoyed fishing and golf. He took regular customers charter fishing on his boat. He traveled extensively, going around the world twice. During his trips, he was able to play golf at St. Andrews in Scotland. He loved his family dearly. Trips with family, kids, and grandkids were always fun. He was there for anything his family needed, and could be counted on.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Nydegger and sons: Carl J Nydegger II, of Gresham, Richard Nydegger of Happy Valley; daughters Joan Rivers of Portland, Dorothy Bray of Portland, and Margaret Vedder of Winlock, WA, as well as 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, James Patrick, and two grandchildren. A private service will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home on Monday, October 17th. Afterwards, the family invites friends and other family to join them for a reception at the family home in Boring. Arrangements are under the care of Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
