Carol E. Doversberger, 87, of West Linn, OR, formerly of Hammond, IN. passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011. Carol was born November 11, 1912 in Tipton, IN, to Elmer and Carolyn (Yontz) Doversberger. Carl was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby, OR.; formerly a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hammond. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Company A, 164th infantry, Eight Army, Americal Division during World War II. After many years of farming in Indiana, Carl worked as foreman for Taylor Chain Company in Hammond and as a warehouse operator for Vierk Distributing Company in Harvey, IL. Carl will be remembered for his active support of the church; his devotion to his family; his gentle, kind, and compassionate spirit; and for his infectious laugh.
Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha (Poppe) Doversberger; his son, Rev. Nicholas (Kristine) of Oregon City, OR; his daughter, Mary (David) Hood of Portland, OR; four granddaughters, Sarah (Kelly) Halliwell; Jeanna (Bill) Doversberger; Rachel Hood and Catherine Hood; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Abigail Halliwell and Emma Doversberger; one sister, Betty (late Ralph) Rump of Tipton, IN; two brothers, Robert (Betsy) Doversberger and James Doversberger, both of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd. in Gresham, Oregon. A concluding committal service with military honors will follow the funeral service and will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1st at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
