Carl Deitchman passed away peacefully on May 20th with family surrounding him. He was born in Manhattan, New York to Jewish parents Irving Isidore and Mollie Frances Fried Deitchman on Oct. 26, 1944. He attended Martin Van Buren High School and studied finance at Queensborough Community College. He lived in Brooklyn thru his late teens and moved to Los Angeles and then to Portland, Oregon in 1967. He was a competitive bowler as a youth, and was known as “Carl D”. Arriving in Portland he found Sandy Lanes and continued his bowling along with poker, a game he learned from his mother, and the game of Billiards. Carl joined his son Michael and grandson Dylan as a team, “The 3D’s”, playing in pool leagues and tournaments. He met his wife Monika in 1974 and through her friends discovered golf and took to that with passion. Carl loved watching movies and knew all the trivia about them. He also enjoyed reading for relaxation. Carl was a great story teller but he could never finish a joke without laughing hysterically before the punch line. He had a great sense of humor and made it a point to make his wife laugh daily. Carl provided the leadership of the Seders for over 30 years at Trinity Lutheran Church where Monika is very active and he made many friends there. He joined his son Michael and grandson Dylan as a team playing in pool league and tournaments. Carl built New Way Insurance Agency and upon retirement worked part time as a marshall at Gresham Golf Course.
Carl is survived by his wife of 47 years, Monika Voellm; his son, Jay (Christy) and grandson, Jonathan of New York; his son, Michael (Angie) and grandson, Dylan (Darian) and granddaughter, Isabelle; his stepson, Lance Dauber (Karen); and his extended family of in-laws and nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
A celebration of life for Carl will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR 97030.
