Bruce was born on December 13, 1912 in Callaway, Nebraska and was the son of George and Cora (Barnes) Cannady. He attended school in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska and graduated from McGrew High School in 1930. He later attended Portland State University, the University of Washington and George Washington University.
On July 3, 1934, Bruce married Pauline E. Pinske in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They made their home in Scottsbluff until 1939, when Bruce entered the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Leadville, Colorado. He was employed in Colorado, Washington, California and New York. In 1957 he moved to the Regional Office in Portland, Oregon, but was employed for most of 1960-1961 in Washington D.C. He retired in 1971 after 32 years of service. In 1973, he moved to Gresham.
Bruce enjoyed learning about his family's history and was a genealogist for many years. He published "The History and Genealogy of the George W. Cannady Family" in 1973 and after several years of research, he completed "The Ancestry of Allison Cannady" and "Jones, Smith and Charlemagne."
Bruce is survived by his son, Michael (wife, Gail) Cannady of Vancouver and his brother, Dale Cannady of Portland along with 1 granddaughter, Alison and two great grandchildren, Ella and Connor. He is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline.
A private family gathering will be in held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bruce to the Friends of the Columbia Gorge. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
