Betty Jo Owens, 88, passed away at her home in Portland on April 17, 2018. She was born on February 22, 1930 in Newland, North Carolina to James and Margaret (Love) Hood. The family moved to Gresham, where she attended Gresham High School and graduated in 1948.
Betty married Fred Owens on February 10, 1951. They were married until he passed in June of 2003.
Betty worked as a Marketing Manager for Meier and Frank prior to being a mother. Once she had children, she stayed at home with them, taking care of the home and her family. Her children fondly remember the time that she spent with them, and what a wonderful mother she was. Later in life she worked as a Receptionist for Sundance Marina, which was owned by her sister and brother in law.
Betty was an amazing cook, and she enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, and she made many outfits for her daughter. She was a mother to the friends of her children, and many of them still visited her until her passing. She was a strong woman, as proved in her later years when she faced health challenges head on. In spite of that, she remained sweet and kind until then end, and will be forever missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Tom and Jim Hood. She is survived by her children, Cindy Brown (Dennis), Jeff Owens (Malia) and Pat Owens; her grandchildren, Heather Brown, Melissa Owens, Jon Owens (Hannah), Jessica Owens and Haley Owens; her great granddaughter Sophia Owens and sister Peg Buck (Robert).
A Memorial Service will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
