Angie Kathleen Adams

Angie Kathleen Copley Adams was born January 9, 1933 in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the third daughter of Otis and Hazel Akers Copley, joining two sisters Eloise and Roma. Their mother passed away when Angie was only 4 years old. Her father remarried Virginia Chapman and they had a son Richard and a daughter June. When Angie was about 8 years old, the family moved to Ohio.

Angie’s family in West Virginia included her paternal grandparents called Mamaw and Papaw. Her father and grandfather traveled looking for work during the Depression, often leaving the children with Mamaw. Times were hard and Angie had memories of moving a lot, not having proper clothing and shoes and being made fun of by other kids. But there were fond memories of her stepmother sewing quilts with Mamaw, dresses and slips with tiny little stitches by hand and always being there with the wonderful corn bread and beans cooking when they got home from school. In West Virginia Mamaw had a garden and canned vegetables so they had food to eat.

Angie described herself as a tomboy, loving to run, climb trees, play baseball, play hide and seek and sneaking behind the house to smoke corn silk rolled in brown paper! She described her teenage years being great with many friends and group fun riding horses, roller skating, dancing, going to drive in movies and travelling with Glee Club.

Angie met Bob Adams when she was 17 while working at a local soda fountain. They married at age 18 and started a family in 1952, a daughter Candice, a son Raymond and a son Terry Lee who died shortly after birth. She enjoyed being a housewife and spending time with her kids, family and friends. They moved to Oregon in 1965, but leaving her family behind was always a regret for Angie.

She worked as a CNA, then continued her education, earning her LPN license. Angie worked at Providence Hospital for over 30 years, retiring after many years in Cardiac Care Unit and loved her job and patients. A few years after the death of her husband in 1995, Angie returned to nursing at Village Healthcare where she provided excellent care for patients and mentoring for new nurses.

Angie leaves behind her daughter Candice, son Raymond, eight grandchildren, fourteen great –grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Angie Kathleen Adams, age 89, of Damascus, Oregon passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
