Allan J. Hunter of Gresham, Oregon passed away October 1, 2020. He departed comfortably in his home with family by his side. His passing was due to natural causes, without medical intervention, as he wished. He had just celebrated his 74th birthday with family members.
Allan was born September 15, 1946 in Wisconsin to Harland J. and Elizabeth S. Hunter. The Hunter family lived in Black River Falls and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin until 1960. In 1960 the family moved to Seattle, Washington.
As a teenager in Seattle, Allan accepted a paper route for work. He found the hilly neighborhoods difficult to manage with heavy newspapers on his bicycle. To ease the rigors of delivering papers, he purchased his first motorcycle, a Honda Super Cub 50cc. The demands of daily paper delivery soon caused mechanical failure of Allan's trusty Honda 50. With no training or experience, he was determined to repair his motorcycle himself using the dining room table as a work bench for the disassembled engine. This early endeavor ultimately launched a 54-year-long career in the motorcycle industry after moving to Oregon in 1965. His knowledge and expertise was acknowledged by his employers, fellow technicians, and customers, and it was often said "Allan is the best." Allan was owner of Honda Service Center in Portland, OR from 1978 through 1984. Allan retired from Beaverton Honda in September, 2020 after 25 years of service.
A veteran, Allan served during the Vietnam War, ranking E5 (Sergeant) in just 18 months. He was stationed in Germany.
Allan loved to hunt and fish with many adventure trips in Oregon and Canada. He was intrigued by nature and kept a pet grey squirrel in Wisconsin and a pet crow in Oregon. He also loved his golden lab Misty.
Sometimes known to be stubborn, Allan's word could always be trusted.
Allan is survived by his daughters Evelyn and Dolores. Grandchildren Triston, Harper, and Brennan. Brother, David and sisters, Pattie and Jan.
