Sterling Haskle Andrews, Jr., 76, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born January 17, 1948 in Kilgore, Texas to Sterling Haskle and Ruby Pearl (Allen) Andrews. Sterling graduated from Kilgore High School and attended Kilgore Junior College before joining the U.S. Army and serving during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he married Sherry Johnson and graduated from East Texas Baptist College and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He was a pastor for 46 years, pastoring seven Southern Baptist Churches in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sherry Andrews; one son, Jim Andrews and wife, Ruthann of Greenwood; two daughters, Tracee Crockett and husband, Jeff of Harrison, AR and Stacee Lay and husband, William of Mountain Home, ID; six grandchildren, Alivia Cantrell and husband, Aaron, Mason Sterling Harris and fiancé, Kenzie Williams, Izabelle Bullington and husband, Ryland, Paige Andrews, McKinnlee Harris and Annabelle Lay and three great grandchildren, Averie Andrews, Tobias Cantrell and Silas Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Irvin Andrews and a great grandson, Owen Sterling Cantrell.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 16 at Greenwood First Baptist Church under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Monday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. A committal service will be held at Danville Cemetery in Kilgore, TX on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Pearcy, Paree Forsee, Merwin Davis, Jason Green, Derek Bull and Brian Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Granville Presson Life Group at Greenwood First Baptist Church.
