Sherrell Sue (Stallings) Buchanan, 81, departed this life on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. She was born April 3, 1942 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas to Oral K. and Ruth (Randolph) Stallings. She was a member of Valley View Church of Christ in Greenwood, Arkansas. Sherrell graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1960 and attended Draughons Business College and Westark Community College.
She met the love of her life, William E. “Bill” Buchanan, at Beverly’s Drive Inn on Towson Avenue in Fort Smith. He was a soldier stationed with the Army at Fort Chaffee. They married February 1, 1964 and were together 55 years until his death in May 2019.
Sherrell worked for Bercher Tire Service for 40 years. She spent 60 years working on her family history. She volunteered at the Fort Smith National Historic Site, Genealogy Department of the Fort Smith Public Library and the Old Jail Museum in Greenwood. She was a lifetime member of the Frontier Researchers Genealogy Society, member of Frontier Families of the Western District of Arkansas, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of Tennessee and First Families of Oklahoma. She was the secretary/treasurer for Mount Harmony Cemetery Association, member of the South Sebastian County Historical Society, member of the King Opera House Players in Van Buren and at one time owned her own art shop called the Country Cupboard.
She is survived by her son, Robert K. Buchanan and wife, Carol of Maumelle, AR; one daughter, Catherine R. Grassi and husband, Tim of Branson, MO; grandchildren, Adam Buchanan of Maumelle and Emily Buchanan of Conway; one sister, Karen Winters and husband, Greg of Branson West, MO and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 28 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mount Harmony Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Stuart Cannefax, Rick Williams, David Fladd, Rod Williamson, Charles Elmore and Jimmy House. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Slater, Kenneth Coleman, Billy Harmon, Lester Oliver, Joey Scarbrough, Cody Faber, Tom Wing, Russell Koch and Kim Bercher.
