Michael Allen Mars, 29, of Fort Smith, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He attended Magazine High School and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith where he earned an associates degree. He worked at the FedEx Ground facility in Fort Smith for ten years as a package handler and most recently as P & D Coordinator. He previously worked with Black Crown Weddings and Events.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to read, camp, hike, canoe and kayak, grow peppers and other plants, grill and smoke, listen to music, play disc golf and pool, and spend time with his friends and family including his dog and best friend, Berlin, and his cat, Miss Snoop.
Michael was baptized at Magazine First Baptist Church and a member of Glendale Baptist Church in Booneville.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Anita Mars. He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Hopkins Davis (Tommy Short) of Booneville; father, David Mars (MaryAnn) of Huntington; siblings Logan-Megan Davis of Greenwood and Harleigh Mars of Huntington; step siblings, Michael Gish of Mansfield, Thomas Gish of Tulsa, and Lindsey Davis of Burleson, Texas; grandmother, Glenda Hopkins of Magazine; grandfather James Hopkins (Peggy) of Magazine; cousin Danielle Stine (Ben) who was like a big sister and her parents Gary Hopkins and Lisa Hopkins; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Stine, Josh Marcaletti, Royce Van Ness, Tyler Barham, Jonathan Lem, John Bursey, the Magazine class of 2009 and his football and baseball teammates.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 19 at Magazine First Baptist Church with burial at Mount Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Sunday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 4 – 6 p.m.
