Martha Jane (Womack) Bascue Anderson was born July 22, 1934, in Belleville, Arkansas. She went to be her Lord and Savior on April 16, 2025, from her home in Shoshoni, Wyoming. She was the only child of J.E. and Jane Womack. During her childhood, the Womacks moved around, making their home in Texas and New Mexico before settling in Ozark, Arkansas. Martha Jane graduated from Ozark High School, where she met and married William E. Bascue in 1953. Martha Jane and Bill were married until his passing in 1992. They had two children, Ava Carol Noblitt and Dale William Bascue. In 2009 Martha Jane married Dean Anderson. She was fond of saying, “Second love is wonderful.” Dean preceded her in death, passing in 2019.
Martha Jane was a retired LPN. She worked at hospitals in Laredo, Texas and Selma, Alabama, before moving to Greenwood where she worked at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, until she retired. She had been an active member and a Sunday School teacher at Greenwood First Baptist Church until her failing health prevented her from regular attendance. In January 2025, Martha Jane moved to Wyoming to live with her son, Dale and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Bascue. She died peacefully in their home at the age of 90.
She is survived by her two children, Ava (Frank) Noblitt of Athens, Alabama and Dale (Charlotte) Bascue of Shoshoni, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Leslie (Lucas) Bridges of Niceville, Florida, Kimberly (Cory) Nelson of Athens, Alabama, William (Samantha) Bascue of Tampa, Florida, Jennifer (Jacob) Briley of Mansfield, Arkansas, Ryan (Ashley) Bascue of Riverton, Wyoming and Taylor (Rachel) Bascue of Aurora, Colorado and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 25 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Friday beginning at noon at the church.
