Rev. J.M. Rogers, age 83, of Fort Smith died August 26, 2015 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a retired Methodist minister having served 61 years in the ministry. He began his ministry in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and pastored Magazine, Lucas, Hector and Caulksville. He became a United Methodist Minister in 1960 and served Lavaca, Mulberry, Alma, Greenwood, Booneville, Harrisburg, Midland Heights in Fort Smith and retired in Paris of active ministry in 1997. He returned to the Greenwood United Methodist and served as Visitation Minister for 7 years and was given the honor of Pastor Emeritus and retired again. He was later appointed as Chaplain at the Methodist Health and Rehab where he served for 10 years before retiring in 2015.
Funeral will be 10 am Saturday, August 29 at Greenwood United Methodist Church with burial at Liberty Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood, Arkansas. Viewing will be Friday from 1-8 pm at the church, where the family will visit with friends from 6-8 pm.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane; two daughters, Debbie Cooper and husband Rick of Cedarville, and Barbara Rogers of Fort Smith; two granddaughters, Kathi Conner of Jenny Lind and Emilee Barto of Groten, Connecticut; one grandson, John Clark of Harrisonville, Missouri; two great-grandsons, Jacob Conner of Jenny Lind and Cooper Barto of Groten, Connecticut, one great-granddaughter, Lauralie Barto of Groten, Connecticut; two brothers, Paul Rogers and wife Karen of Enid, Oklahoma and Ronnie Rogers and wife Amanda of Fort Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Irene Rogers and his birth mother, who died soon after his birth, Zuma Gilliam Rogers.
