Harold Gene Harris was born May 13, 1931 in Ursula, Arkansas to Lewis A. and Emma Harris. Harold met his Heavenly Father March 22, 2023 in his home in Greenwood with his loving son and running buddy by his side.
Harold was a musician from a young age, singing and playing guitar. He loved classic country and gospel music. His gospel influence was his mother who wrote and published hundreds of gospel songs, which they performed at countless church socials and Sunday night “singings”. He continued his entertaining ways when he joined the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan and Korea. He entertained the troops so much that he was transferred from the front lines to the mess kitchen, where he was a cook. Before and after his service to our country, Harold was a pastry chef. He worked in his own bakery in Rogers and in Fort Smith, he worked at Bowan Town and Country and Hardscrabble Country Club. In the early seventies, Harold retired from baking and began working at AMCO in shipping and receiving. He worked there until retirement in 2000.
When Harold returned to Arkansas after the serving our country, he met and married Dortha Lee Rainey and they remained married until her death in 2018. Sixty-four years of marriage produced a lifetime of love, laughter, and fun in everything they did from traveling the country to sitting on the porch.
Harold is survived by one son, Lewis Ray Harris and wife, Penny and their daughter, Emma Daisy Harris all of Greenwood. Daisy was her Pawpaw’s world. Their connection was almost magical.
