Robert C. Moeller was born in Greenwich, CT on 3Jun30. He graduated from Greenwich H.S. in June of 1948.
CSM Moeller enlisted as a RCT E1 in the CTARNG on 1Feb49 as a member of Btry B, 192d FA and served as a cannoneer in the Firing Btry. He was called to active duty on 5Sep50 with Btry B and was stationed at Camp Pickett, VA. During that time, he participated with the 192d FA Operation Southern Pines and eventually went to Germany stationed at the Flint Kaserne in Bad Tolz where he earned the rank of Sergeant while performing various duties and assignments in the Firing Btry to include Chief of Section. He was released from active duty on 24Jun52 and was transferred back to the CTARNG and Btry B, 192d FA Bn.
On 1Aug59, he accepted full-time employment with the CTARNG serving as an Admin Supply Tech in Btry B, C, HQ, and Svc Btry, and HQ Btry 192d FA and was appointed as the Traffic Mgmt Spec in Feb 1981 at the USPFOi.
He held various military positions in the 192d FA to include supply sergeant, chief of firing battery, and first sergeant, chief of firing battery, and first sergeant in Batteries A, B, C, HQ and Svc Btry and HQ Btry. He was appointed Bn Sgt Major on 22May72 and appointed as a Command Sergeant Major shortly thereafter serving in that position until 1Jun81. On 2Jun81 he was assigned as the Command Sergeant Major of the CT Mil Academy and appointed as Commandant of the NCO School. On 1Feb84, he was transferred to the G4 Section, HQ STARC as the Transportation Supervisor.
After his honorable discharge (retirement) on June 3, 1990, Ret. CSM Moeller held several voluntary positions for the CTANG including CT Representative for the Assoc. of the US Army and managing the Officers Club in the Hartford Armory.
On Nov. 22, 2010, he was inducted in the CT. Veteran’s Hall of Fame. CSM Moeller has attended many military and civilian schools to include the Pers Staff NCO Course, Hazardous Materials Course and American Airlines Sabre System.
Survivors include his three devoted children, Carl Moeller (Tammy), Karen Pioli (Floyd) and June Canale (Thomas); six loving grandchildren; four beautiful great-grandsons; his cherished sister, Marilyn Wilson and his nieces and nephews.
CSM Moeller was predeceased by his brother, William H. Moeller.
Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, July 30 at Leo P. Gallagher and Sons from 4 PM - 8 PM. Final goodbyes will be held on Wednesday, July 31 at 10 AM, Leo P. Gallagher and Sons, Arch St. Greenwich, CT. Full military honors will be rendered at Kensico Cemetery located at 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY on Wednesday, July 31.
