Pamela Vaughan

Pamela McClellan Perkins Vaughan, devoted mother and grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and dear friend, died unexpectedly, surrounded by family, Monday, May 31, 2010 after suffering a stroke. A resident of Greenwich, CT., she was born January 10, 1947 in Mount Vernon, NY to Marion McClellan Perkins Prehn of Jamestown, RI and Naples, FL. and the late Richard A. Perkins, and was the eldest of four children.

“Pam” was graduated from the St. Margaret’s School, Waterbury, CT in 1965; from Bennett College in 1967 and received a BA from St. Lawrence University in 1969. After her marriage ended in divorce, she continued to live in Pelham, NY and devoted herself to raising her two accomplished sons. One of her greatest joys was following her sons’ high school and college athletic careers at Exeter, Kent, Williams and Middlebury. She was a loyal and informed football and basketball fan. In recent years she took up golf so she could join her sons on the field of play.

A career in retail fashion included positions at Bally of Switzerland, Barney’s of New York and Carolee Jewelry. Once retired, Pam continued to work part time and was an administrator at St. Barnabas Church in Greenwich, CT, at the time of her death.

Pam had enormous creative energy which was evident in her artistic pursuits of drawing and painting. Most recently she had been captivated by watercolor and delighted her family with her renditions of beloved Rhode Island and Florida scenes. Pam loved the ocean and was a lifelong sailor. She raced Lightnings as a child on Long Island Sound and later raced and sailed on Long Island Sound and Narragansett Bay. A member of the Cottrell Pier Association in Jamestown, RI, Pam liked nothing better than a family cookout by the beach, or a picnic on the rocks at Beavertail.

Pam was a loving and devoted grandmother known to her four grandchildren as Grammie Pammy.

Pam is survived by her mother; son Lindsey G.Vaughan and his wife Heidi Z. Vaughan and their four children: Zachary, Chase, Reagan and Gabriella all of Western Springs, IL; and son Christopher A. Vaughan and his fiancée Christa A. McDougall of Portsmouth, RI. She is also survived by three siblings, Candace P. Longley of Atlanta, Georgia; Kimberly P. Westcott of Darien, CT and Richard A. Perkins Jr. of New York City; and eight nephews: Stuart H. Longley, Reid M. Longley, James P. Longley, Jeffrey B. Westcott, Timothy P. Westcott, R. Nicholas Perkins, Alexander V. Perkins and Clayton A. Perkins.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 11 a.m. at The Parish of Christ the Redeemer (formerly Christ Church) 1415 Pelhamdale Avenue, Pelham Manor, NY. Pam will be interred next to her father in the Church’s Garden of Resurrection in a private family service.
