It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nora Haggerty, who peacefully left us on April 16, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. Nora was a kind, generous and caring woman who touched the lives of many people.
Born in Elmhurst, NY, Nora grew up with a love for children and a passion for education. She pursued her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher and spent close to 20 years teaching fourth grade at Visitation School in Bronx, NY where she was beloved by her students and respected by her colleagues.
Nora’s family was most important to her. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt who opened her heart and her home to everyone she knew. Her kindness and generosity had no bounds, and her door was always open to family and friends. She loved when the house was full. Nora was famous for her delicious brownies. Baking them and sharing them gave her such great joy. Her love was unconditional, and her compassion and care for others were evident in all that she did.
Nora leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through her family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Nora McGowan. She is survived by her devoted children Noreen Haggerty, Howard Haggerty (Michelle), Tom Haggerty (Olivia), and Mary Kate Nicholas (Flynn), eight cherished grandchildren Timothy, Erin, Amelia, Jay, Isla, Duane, Zoe, and Emma, siblings Jim McGowan (Barbara), Joe McGowan (Jeannie), and Katie Ramaley (Ben), and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
