Kathryn Dale Hewitt, 72, our mom, Mima, Dennis's beloved wife and best friend passed away suddenly on October 5, 2016. Kathryn was the quiet heart of her family, a family defined not just by blood relations, not just by marriage, but by all of the people to whom she opened her home and heart. Her love showed in so many ways, and her favorites were the parties and celebrations she designed and executed. From epic Thanksgiving dinners and Super Bowl parties, to special events to celebrate (and show off a little) her granddaughters, to the magical night of her and Dennis's 50th wedding anniversary this past June.Kathryn learned to read before she was five years old; her adoptive grandparents, Mimi and Dodo, having her read the morning newspaper headlines. This began a lifelong love that she shared with everyone, from passing on her recent favorite reads to taking her granddaughters to the bookstore every time they visited. Kathryn was born on May 12, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. She graduated from Washington High School in 1962 where she met her future husband Dennis. After graduation, Kathryn joined the workforce with Pacific Bell and later attended Los Angeles City College.Kathryn married Dennis Edwin Hewitt on June 11, 1966 in Los Angeles. They moved first to Greenwich, CT in 1972 and later to Old Greenwich in 1977 where they raised their two beloved daughters Denise Ereka and Dawn Elizabeth. Kathryn loved the community of Old Greenwich and dedicated her time to her church by running the First Congregational Church's annual Antique Fair and the church's Rummage Room. Those years were notable in the Hewitt family because Christmas morning would have unique and interesting gifts simply marked "From: RR." Later, Kathryn successfully managed a private residential real estate portfolio that encompassed several states.Kathryn is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Dennis, her daughters Denise Peterson of Houston, TX and Dawn Hewitt of Portland, OR, and her adored granddaughters Annamarie and Isabella Smith. She is also survived by Linda & Kenneth Juengel and Holly & Russell Roberts, her cherished in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Francis Lefler along with her sister Ellen Lefler. Kathryn's most cherished treasures were her family and friends. She will be missed by the many that were touched by her warm, caring, and generous personality. Calling hours will be at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT on Friday, October 14th from 5pm to 7pm and on Saturday October 15th from 3pm to 5pm.
