Grace McCarthy

Grace was born in Salem, MA on 9/1/34. She graduated high school from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA. She also graduated from Bradford Junior College in North Andover, MA, with her final degree in history at Newton College of the Sacred Heart (which we fondly know as Boston College).

Grace’s talents allowed her to work in many different places. Besides teaching tennis, most notably was her 40 plus years as a top notch, award winning real estate agent in Greenwich, CT. Grace was an avid tennis and paddle tennis player, rarely settling for less than the finals of any tournament. As a young player, Grace was ranked #1 tennis player in New England under 18.

Grace had a lifetime passion of always reaching out to help others; she had an open door policy of support and a guarantee of a good laugh for anyone. When she wasn’t playing sports, enjoying her forever games of Bridge or sharing laughs with friends, her most cherished time was spent with her family.

Grace is survived by her siblings Charlie Donovan of St. Louis, Mo, David Donovan of Marblehead, MA, and Judy Delano of Swampscott, MA. She is also survived by her children, Susan Ireland, Ann Healy, Jeff McCarthy and Tucker McCarthy, daughter in law JoAnn McCarthy, son in laws Dennis Healy and John Ireland, and her 7 grandchildren Grace, Aiden, Catie, Trinity, Jack, Hope and Isabelle.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on September 3rd at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 31 Arch St. Greenwich, CT. The funeral service will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Church on Wednesday, September 4th at 10am. A private burial will follow the funeral at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles E. Donovan of Swampscott, MA and her former husband and friend Henry J. McCarthy.
