Frank Joseph Rupp Sr. 96, of Greenwich, Ct. passed away peacefully on October 13, 2015. He was born in Port Chester (Greenwich), NY to John and Nellie Chimelowic Rupp. Raised in Byram, Ct., he attended New Lebanon School and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1937. Frank then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.(CCC), and was stationed in Wyoming where he was involved in re-forestation projects. At the outbreak of WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in the Pacific as a tailgunner on a B-17 aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Following the war, Frank worked for the Homelite Corp. in Port Chester, NY as a machinist while going to night school at the Modell Institute in NYC. He married Josephine Muskus of Greenwich on April 15, 1947 and they made their home in Byram. Frank owned a sawmill in Armonk,NY , turning out fine lumber for boat builders. Also, at this time, he and his brother Edward Rupp began building rowing skiffs and small inboard boats. After the sale of his lumber business he went to work for the Town of Greenwich as the Dockmaster at Grass Island. After several years in that postition , Frank transferred to the Public Works division where he remained until his retirement. During his retirement, he and his wife became active in the Greenwich Senior Center. He was also active in numerous Greenwich organizations. Frank was a past Commodore and life member (77years) of the Byram Shore Boat Club, a member of the Byram Veterans, the Knights of Columbus Council 39 of Greenwich and the Improved Order of Redmen Tribe 46. He also was the former Vice President of the CT. Commercial Fisheries Assoc., as well as the CT. Antique Machinery Assoc. and the Quinebaugh Valley Engineers Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Josephine, his son Frank Rupp Jr. of Greenwich, his daughter Johanna Rupp,(Charles Nolen), of Cold Spring, NY and grandchildren, Jennifer Lasell(Jason) of Newport, New Hampshire, Jacqueline Rupp of Westerly, Rhode Island and John T. Rupp of Greenwich, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Edward Rupp and his sister Stephanie Filanowski. Friends may call at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich on Sunday, October 18th from 3 to 7. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 19th at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Byram, CT. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich.
