He was born on March 1, 1922 in New York. Eugene, after serving in the
US Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific as Sergeant, and after
Graduation from CCSC, became the first African American policeman in the
Town of Greenwich. He also was a member of the first Youth Division of
the Greenwich Police Department formed in 1967, which received the Clark
Award, and was the first Connecticut patrolman to achieve the degree of
Master of Police Administration at City College in New York. He attended
many seminars and courses covering the fields of juvenile delinquency,
narcotics and police-community relations. After retiring from the Police
Department he joined the faculty of Western Junior High School as Social
Studies teacher and achieved another Master's degree at Bridgeport
University in History. Eugene was also an active member of the NAACP
for many years and was active in several community organizations. He was
a faithful member of the Baha'i community throughout his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jeanette Belanger, sister -
Mary Sewer, daughters - Neria Moye, Susan Moye, Dee Moye Hoban, Son
- Eugene Moye Jr., and his 5 grand children - Susan, Camilla, Eugene III,
Ryan, Amir.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 17 at Gallagher and Son Funeral
Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich, CT. Wake will be held from 9:00-
11:OOAM. Service will be at 11:30AM. Burial at Putnam Cemetery will be
private.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Friends of the Cos cob
Library, Cos Cob, CT and UNESCO.
