He was born March 31,1945 in Pittsburgh, PA to Thomas and Cecelia Powell. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, and Duquesne University. He came to NYC in 1970 and worked in the financial services industry during his career, including a 20 year stint as a partner in the equities division of Kidder Peabody (HE WOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT). He was, no brag, a Wall St and UES legend! Funny, gregarious, friendly, extremely generous, and always the life of the party. He was a member of the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT for over 40 years. He designed the Club’s latest logo, which was recently named #1 in America, upon which he was named an honorary member.
He had astute wagering prowess, whether that be on sports or stocks (especially the short side). He loved his Budweiser and a good Cabernet. He had a lifelong love affair with all the Pittsburgh teams, especially the Steelers! He was greatly admired by his customers, competitors, and co-workers.
He was predeceased by his parents, younger sister Kathy Powell and wife DarylAnne. He is survived by his sisters Mary Jane Trant, Patricia Sutherland, and Susan McHugh, his brothers Thomas J Powell Jr and Francis X Powell, numerous nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion Cynthia Vanneck.
Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday, November 15th at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St, Greenwich, CT. Funeral and interment will take take in Pittsburgh on November 17th. A memorial service is being planned by family and friends for the metropolitan area in early spring 2023.
