Catherine (Kay) B. Pullen, 89, passed away February 8, at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center. She was born in Greenwich, Ct. December 27, 1920 to
Elizabeth and Patrick Brennan.
Kay was a long time resident of Stamford and also lived in New Canaan, Marco Island, Florida and Royal Oak, Maryland. She married William H. Cleary in 1942 and raised their four children, Carol Ann, William Jr., Albert Ward, and Mary Alice. After Bill Sr.’s passing in 1960, Kay started Mrs. Kay’s Training Center, a Montessori Program for four and five year olds. She pursued her own education at the University of Oxford as well as the Universities of Florence and Vienna. She loved the city of Stamford and was very involved in its civic affairs. Kay was an original member of Board of the Representatives of Stamford and also served on the Boards of Education, St. John’s Towers, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Catholic Mother’s Circles, the Rehabilitation Center of Stamford, Sacred Heart University, and Hubbard Heights Garden Club. In 1951, she was given the Christopher Award for her work in having bronze plaques stating, “In God We Trust” put into the then 18 public schools of Stamford.
She married E. Markey Pullen, MD in 1975 and lived in New Canaan, Royal Oak, Md, and Marco Island, Fl. After Markey passed away in 1980 Kay returned to Stamford.
She is survived by her brother John P. Brennan of Greenwich and her children: Carol C. Cusick of Tarrytown, NY and grandchildren Thomas and Catherine; William H. and wife Patricia of Hendersonville, NC and grandchildren Megan and William Jr.; Albert Ward of Brooklyn, NY and grandchildren Albert Jr., Elizabeth and John; Mary Alice and husband Craig R. Sanford, DDS of Nantucket, Ma. and grandchildren Geoffrey and Christopher and three great grandchildren Sean, Mia and Ryan; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

of Greenwich Woods Healthcare Center for their kindness and excellent care they rendered to Kay over the past year.
A memorial service will be held at The Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist on Tuesday, February 23 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Kay’s memory to The Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist at 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901.
