He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Lewis of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Bill was a well-known contractor for many years in Lincoln, Nebraska, and owned a small contracting business after moving to Greenville, South Carolina. He also owned and operated retail store locations in Lincoln, NE, Charlotte, NC and Greenville, SC throughout his career. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his sons. He was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
Bill’s role of husband, father, and “Papa” were the focus and highlights of his life.
His legacy to his family is the gift of witnessing how he carried out each of these roles with devotion, sincerity and love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sharon. Two sons David William Lewis (Cathy) of Greenville, SC and Michael Scott Lewis (Dianne) of Des Moines, Iowa, Brother-In-Law Richard Harold Tavis of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lyndsey Lewis Glymph (Brett) of Columbia, SC; Mary Carter Lewis of Memphis, TN; Andrew Lewis (Allison); Johnathan Lewis; Peter Lewis; and Katie Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care given by Pam Klein of Kindred at Home, Doctors Treece and Bolemon of Greenville Hospital System, and the nurses in the Intensive Care Unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held in the Carpenter Chapel at First Baptist Church Greenville, 847 Cleveland St, Greenville, SC 29601, 1:30 PM Monday October 1, 2018.
Private Family Burial Services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska at a future date and time to be determined by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Greenville, 847 Cleveland St, Greenville, SC 29601.
